Dial ID

Dial ID Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 October 2026

This policy explains what information the Dial ID mobile app ("Dial ID", "the App", "we", "us") collects, why, and what you can do about it. Dial ID is published by Loyd Kim. If you have a question, email kimloydmail@gmail.com.

1. What we collect

a) Watch photos you choose to scan

When you scan a watch, you take or choose up to three photos (dial, case back, side). The App resizes them on your device and sends them to our server (Google Firebase Cloud Functions), which passes them to Google Cloud Vertex AI (Gemini) to identify the watch and estimate a price range. The result comes back to the App.

b) An anonymous user ID

The App signs you in anonymously with Firebase Authentication. This creates a random ID that is not linked to your name, email or phone number. We use it to keep your subscription working and to limit how many scans one device can make each day.

c) A daily scan counter

For each anonymous ID we keep a counter of scans per day, with the date and the time of the last update. We use it to prevent abuse of the identification service.

d) Purchase information

If you subscribe, Apple or Google handles the payment. We never see your card details. To confirm your subscription, the App sends the purchase or transaction ID to our server, which checks it with Apple or Google and stores your subscription status (product, expiry date, store) under your anonymous ID in Google Firebase Firestore.

e) Feedback you send

If you use the feedback form, we store your message and the email address you enter in Firestore so we can reply. This is the only place the App asks for your email, and it is optional.

f) Usage and crash data

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used (for example, screens viewed, scans started and completed, paywall views) and Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports. These include device model, operating system version, app version, country and an app instance ID. They do not include your photos.

g) Advertising data

Free users see ads served by Google AdMob. On iOS we ask for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before AdMob can use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). If you say no, ads are not personalised with it. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland we also ask for consent through Google's consent form before personalised ads are shown. You can change these choices later in your device settings or in the App's settings.

2. How we use information

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Service providers

4. Links to other sites

The "Check real prices" links open a Chrono24 search in an in-app browser and an eBay search in your browser. Dial ID does not send Chrono24 or eBay any information about you, and their own privacy policies apply on their sites.

5. How long we keep information

6. Your choices and rights

7. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

8. Security

Data sent between the App and our server is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

9. Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the App.
